Delphos dress, 1948. Pleated silk. Mariano Fortuny, Italy.
The Chicago History Museum

Mariano Fortuny is best known as the creator of the Delphos dress, styled after classical Grecian dress. Although first created in 1907, Fortuny continued making the Delphos until his death in 1949. Many of the garments here were purchased and worn by Chicago women decades after they were originally made; some even cut inches off the hems to update the style.
